A NEW state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre for Limerick has been announced by Bon Secours Health System and UPMC, bringing additional capacity to radiation and medical oncology services to the Mid West.
Located in Ballygrennan, on the outskirts of Limerick City, construction of the new centre is set to begin in the coming months, with services expected to start in late 2026.
The two organisations already offer cancer services at Bon Secours Hospital Cork, in partnership with UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre.
The Ballygrennan centre will expand capacity in radiation and medical oncology locally.
“This investment will bring improved capacity to an already hardworking regional network, helping to reduce waiting times and improve outcomes for patients in the Mid West. Together with Bon Secours Health System, we are proud to enhance cancer care in the region and deliver leading-edge treatment with compassion and excellence,” said Eamonn Fitzgerald, managing director of UPMC Ireland.
Bill Maher, Groupe CEO of Bon Secours Health System, added that โthe development of this cancer centre aligns with our 2025 Strategic Plan to expand access to expert, high-quality care across Irelandโ.
“This development will work closely with the HSE and National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) for the benefit of communities across the Mid West,โ Mr Maher said.
The new cancer-care centre will operate in line with international best practices and national cancer control standards, ensuring that patients in the Mid West have access to the same level of care as those in larger urban centre.
