Famous faces and close calls for Limerick in AIL

YOUNG Munster were edged out, 19-18, after a terrific tussle with Cork Constitution in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League at Temple Hill.

Shane O’Leary kicked two early penalties for the Limerick side before Con were awarded a penalty try to take the lead.

John Poland gave Munsters a 13-7 half-time lead with a try, which O’Leary converted.

Seán Condon closed the gap to a point with a try, but Shay McCarthy restored the visitors’ advantage with a try, before Johnny Murphy’s late try in the corner that Dylan Hicks converted to give the home side the spoils.

In 1B, a strong fightback by Dublin University saw them defeat Garryowen 31-29 at College Park. Garryowen led 21-0 at half-time. Seán Sexton scored two tries for the visitors, and Max Clein and George Hadden got one each. Lachlan Stewart kicked three conversions and a penalty.

Shannon’s recent good run came unstuck in Galway as they lost 27-22 to Corinthians in 2A, having led 19-3 at the interval. Kelvin Brown scored two of Shannon’s three tries and Josh Costelloe grabbed the other. Cillian O’Connor kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Old Crescent remain in the relegation zone, eight points adrift of safety, after their 22-17 defeat away to Wanderers. John Lyons, Brian Molloy and Oisin Toland were Crescent’s try scorers and John Hurley kicked one conversion.

UL Bohemian kept their promotion hopes alive from 2B, after their 52-19 home win against Sligo. Kean Sheehy and Jordan Mills each scored two tries for the Limerick side, and Liam Nellan, Greg Fitzgerald and Paul Clancy got one each. Cian Casey kicked seven conversions and a penalty.

Leaders (2C) Thomond lost at home to Monkstown 19-17. Evan Cusack scored two tries and a conversion for the locals and Josh Tunney-Ware got a try.

Bruff had a deserved 38-28 away win against Belfast Harlequins. Wiktor Wilczuk scored a wonderful four tries for Bruff and John Sheehan had one.

Flawless Paul Collins converted all five tries and also kicked a penalty.
