OVER 20 Irish businesses will soon have direct access to renewable electricity from a County Limerick wind farm.
Based in Knockawarriga, companies will be able to purchase clean energy without committing to the entire wind farm’s output at a competitive and stable cost, operators have said.
The announcement is part of a new partnership between Flogas and รrsted Onshore Ireland and builds on Flogas’ multi-buyer corporate power purchase agreement model (CPPA), designed to help medium and large sized companies achieve net-zero targets.
Operating since 2008, the 22.5MW Knockawarriga wind farm plays “a proven role in securing Irelands energy system”.
In its 17 years of operation, over 33,000 tonnes of carbon emissions have been avoided through the farm.
Flogas said that contract terms can also be aligned with a customer’s existing agreements, providing flexibility for individual business needs.
The first six businesses partnered with Knockawarriga wind farm operate in a wide range of industries, spanning from financial services, insurance, and manufacturing, to hospitality and food production sectors, including Walsh Mushrooms Group and Allianz Worldwide Care.
Several of these businesses have been with Flogas for many years,ย the company said, while some have just recently joined Flogas.
Flogas said that it aims to supply renewable energy to over 20 medium and large sized businesses within the next 12 months through this model, supporting decarbonisation efforts and reducing reliance on imported energy.
