Community wardens to be on the beat in Limerick City before Christmas

COMMUNITY wardens will take to the streets of the city centre over the Christmas period to provide additional support and reassurance to members of the public, local businesses, and visitors to the Treaty during one of the busiest periods of the year.

Cathaoirleach of the Metropolitan Area of Limerick, Fine Gael councillor Daniel Butler this week confirmed the deployment of three new community wardens for the city, funded through government support.

A fourth warden for the city is being financed through Mayor John Moran’s mayoral fund, with the overall aim to enhance safety and community wellbeing in the city centre area.

“These wardens will work closely with An Garda Síochána and local stakeholders as part of a wider programme of measures designed to improve public engagement, deter anti-social behaviour, and maintain a welcoming and vibrant environment across the city centre,” Cllr Butler told the Limerick Post this week.

The city councillor, who earlier this year when appointed Cathaoirleach of the Metropolitan District said that he wanted to make the city his primary focus, said he wanted to “thank the government for their continued investment in community safety that play a direct role in delivering visible, practical support on our streets”.

According to the Fine Gael man, the introduction of these community wardens for the city demonstrates Limerick City and County Council’s commitment to making sure that Limerick remains a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive place for everyone at this important time of the year.
