BUSINESSES are being warned that there may be counterfeit money in circulation after a city-centre business reported receiving a counterfeit banknote in recent weeks.Â
Counterfeit currency has the potential to cause real financial harm—particularly to small and medium-sized businesses.
Said Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station, “We urge business owners and staff to remain vigilant.
Be especially cautious if someone attempts to pay for a low-value item with a high-denomination note, which can be an attempt to obtain a large amount of genuine change.
If you suspect a note is counterfeit, retain it if possible and contact Gardaà immediately”.
