
RAIL services have resumed between Limerick and Galway this afternoon following an incident in which a person was killed after being struck by a train earlier this Saturday morning (January 17).
Irish Rail confirmed, via X, this morning that the 6.15am Galway to Limerick service “struck” a person outside Oranmore. The rail service shortly after confirmed the incident as a fatality.
The identity of the person who tragically lost their life has not currently been reported.
Gardaí were carrying out examinations of the site of the fatal incident.

The line between Athenry and Galway was closed for a period and taxi transfers were arranged for passengers travelling between Athenry and Limerick.
Delays of over an hour and a half were reported by the rail service.
Shortly before 1pm, Irish Rail confirmed that the line has been reopened but bus transfers between Galway and Athenry are remaining in place.
Full services between Galway and Limerick will resume from 1.45pm (Galway to Limerick) and 2.20pm (Limerick to Galway).
