LESS than 20 per cent of students at Irish secondary schools are getting enough exercise. That’s according to new research from the University of Limerick (UL).

The UL study revealed that only 18 per cent of secondary school students in Ireland are getting the recommended 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity on a daily basis.

The findings are included in a survey of the physical activity of over 20,000 students in 42 Irish post-primary schools.

The study also found that gender, age, time, cost, and academic pressures all rank highly as barriers to physical activity for post-primary students.
