HAPPY families were handed the keys to a new housing development in the heart of Limerick City this past week .
The new homes, a new social housing development by Limerick City and County Council, are located on Clare Street in the city, and were built with funding from the Department of Housing.
The development – which consists of three two-bed, two one-bed, one two-bed, and one three-bed apartments – according to the Council, “transforms what had been an underutilised and vacant space into a high-quality residential scheme that will now provide homes for seven families.
The build represents an investment of around €2million in the area.
Speaking after the families were handed over the keys to their new homes this week, Mayor John Moran said that “while modest in scale, these seven new homes on Clare Street represent another important step in building confidence in our work to increase levels of housing delivery in Limerick”.
“Every project matters, particularly to the individuals and families that will call these houses home. Importantly, this project brings additional life back into the city centre, offering non car-dependent living which helps with affordability challenges.”
Limerick City TD and Minister of State for Older People and Housing Kieran O Donnell added that “these new houses represent more than bricks and mortar, they represent security, stability and a fresh start for the families and residents who will call them home”.
The works were carried out by Jada Projects Limited under Limerick Council’s initiative to revitalise brownfield urban sites for community housing.
