UL to encourage medical students to travel to Ghana

THE Ghanaian Cardinal Peter Turkson, was in Limerick this week as part of a visit organised by the Ghana Ireland Friendship Trust. The archbishop of the Cape Coast in Ghana met with Prof Paul Finnucane, dean of the graduate Medical School at the University of Limerick.

Prof Finnucane told the cardinal, that UL’s medical school would be encouraging its students to travel to Ghana as part of the clinical training. He said the first group of students would go into clinical training next year, so it may be possible to do something after that date.

The 60-year-old cardinal’s visit was organised by the Limerick branch of the Ghana Ireland Friendship Trust which has already collected €45,000 for Ghana.

During his five-day stay in the city, Cardinal Turkson will visit a number of hospitals and colleges.
