UL president vows to review rag week

THE HEAD of University of Limerick, Professor Don Barry, has vowed to carry out a full investigation into disturbances and antisocial behaviour in the general Castletroy area during the college’s rag week.

Residents expressed their anger after windows were broken, a car upturned and trees uprooted.

Also, some UL students were arrested in the city for anti social behaviour.

Professor Barry described behaviour of some students as inexcusable, and said that a minority had brought the good name of the college student body into disrepute.

“I want to put on record my condemnation of these incidents and to express regret to all those who have been negatively affected by them”, he said in a statement.

He added that facilitation by the university, of rag week activities, will be reconsidered.

It is understood that a number of students were handed on-the-spot fines for drinking in public places.
