Game of dare in Prospect area

A DEADLY new game of dare is being played by young tearaways in the Prospect area of Limerick, a local RSF  community activist has claimed.

Sean O’Neill from Quinn’s Cottages, said that a new twist in the antisocial behaviour of gangs of youths is to set fire to a wheelie bin and place it close to an electricity pole.

“This latest craze is placing the lives of elderly residents in danger and it must be tackled right away”, he said.

Not only is the act a danger to local people by setting the bin on fire and igniting the wooden pole, the effect is damage to phone and electricity lines.

In the latest incident, up to 20 people in the area had their telephone service cut off because of the fire.

“This unthinking behaviour is placing the lives of the elderly in danger as well as posing a threat to the young people themselves.

“While they may see it as a mere act of vandalism, the fact is there is a dangerous aspect to it and I am now appealing to those involved to cease this type of activity.

“These young people must realise that their actions  are placing the lives of innocent people in danger and they must cease this activity”.
