FAILTE Ireland, the national tourism development authority, is holding free “BizCheck” clinics to give practical advice and help to tourism businesses across the country. Scheduled for Wednesday November 26 at the Maldron Hotel, the clinic will host three sittings running throughout the day, 10am – 12noon; 1pm – 3pm and 3.30pm – 5.30pm.

In 2009, Fáilte Ireland has expanded the range of practical supports available to tourism businesses and is focusing, in particular on the three all important C’s – Cash, Customers and Credit. The clinics will allow business owners to meet with a member of the Mentoring Team, for a FREE two hour intensive business advisory session. The panel of mentors are independent business experts with a wealth of experience in the tourism sector.  

If you are an owner or manager of an Irish tourism enterprise then you are eligible to participate in BizCheck. It is essential that appointments are scheduled prior to the clinic and can be booked by contacting Helen McDaid at bizcheck@failteireland.ie

JUNIOR Chamber International Limerick swept the boards recently at JCI Ireland National Convention held in Moyvalley Co. Meath. The branch won awards for Public Relations and fund raising. JCI Limerick also won the best branch award and Emmeline Searson was awarded Best Local President 2009.  

“This is a great achievement for the Limerick branch and is a credit to all their members. “We’ve worked hard this year and that has been reflected in an increase in membership,” Emmeline said.

JCI International is a world wide organisation for young people between the ages of 18 and 40 whose mission is to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. The Limerick branch of JCI holds its monthly meetings the first Wednesday of every month in Pery’s Hotel, Glentworth Street, Limerick.

WITH Halloween having just passed us, The Irish Brokers Association has warned Irish businesses that vigilance is required if they are to avoid the burgeoning cost of vandalism now or at any time of the year.

Shane Bermingham, Irish Broker Committee member in Limerick commented, “whether property damage is intentional or not, these incidents can threaten the livelihoods of the struggling business owners whose property has been damaged. The increasing numbers of businesses without proper insurance are even more exposed. As a result, we have outlined a number of simple yet effective steps which people can take to eliminate or at the very least minimize the risk of fire damage in the future”.

Above all, the group advise to check your insurance cover and review it as your business goes forward, they urge you to be vigilant and not leave anything to chance in and around your building.

AER Lingus this week has launched a fourth daily flight to London Heathrow from Belfast International. Bizworld reports that from March next year the airline will have four flights in each direction.

More than 1.3 million people have booked with Aer Lingus from their base in Belfast since operations began in December 2007.
Enda Corneille, the airline’s director of corporate affairs, said: “Our low fares have just become available more often for those travelling to London and of course for those coming here for business and pleasure.
“It’s particularly good for businessmen and women and for public representatives looking for greater flexibility in their travel arrangements.”

THE Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Dr. Martin Mansergh, and the Minister for Taxes and Revenues of the Republic of Belarus, Ms. Anna Deiko, signed a Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income and Capital Gains. The tax deal between Ireland and Belarus is believed to further enhance trade relations with the two countries.

Bizworld report that with the long established links through the Chernobyl Children’s Project, Dr Manseragh said that the signing of this agreement with Belarus was a significant occasion for Ireland in that it is an important addition to Ireland’s existing network of double taxation treaties and will have a positive impact on trade and investment between Ireland and Belarus. Enterprise Ireland co-hosted a roundtable event for over 20 Irish firms who have an interest in Belarus and furthermore said that there is the possibility of an Irish trade mission to Belarus in 2010.
