Lee to return for title fight in Limerick

-

ANDY Lee took a step closer to setting up a much anticipated European title fight against Darren Barker next Autumn following his TKO of Mamadou Thiam at the UL Arena last Saturday. Lee, looking very impressive in the opening exchanges, had the measure of the Senegalese French man with the help of his reach and six inch height advantage.

However, Lee did not get to explode in to top action as Thiam retired and failed to come out of his corner for the third round after sustaining a back injury during an earlier slip in the opening round.

Thiam fell awkwardly and fell foul of the injury and was unable to continue.

Emanuel Steward, Lee’s US trainer, was delighted with the win despite the no contest and said that he wanted a “championship fight” for Andy next.

Brian Peters, boxing promoter, said that Andy would return “in the fall to fight Barker in Limerick”.
