Mickey Ned O Sullivan leaves Limerick football post

-

Limerick senior football manager Mickey Ned O Sullivan has decided not to remain on as Limerick footballer manager for the coming season. The Kerry native was expected to take the position for a six season, but reports were confirmed last night that the Kenmare man would not continue on. The move comes as a shock to players, supporters and board members alike, as signs had all pointed that O Sullivan would remain. The former All-Ireland winner with Kerry signaled his intention to step down from the role this week in a phone call to Limerick Football Board secretary Sean McAuliffe.

All of O’Sullivan’s back-room team have also resigned their roles, including Donie Buckley. It is expected that Buckley may replace Eamon Fitzmaurice as a selector with his native Kerry, after Fitzmaurice called time on his involvement with the Kingdom in the wake of their All-Ireland SFC quarter-final exit to Down. O’Sullivan took over from Liam Kearns as manager of the Limerick senior footballers in October 2005. The Shannonsiders reached two GAA Munster SFC finals under the Kerry native’s stewardship, but failed to claim a first title since 1896, having lost out to both Kerry and Cork in the last two deciders. Limerick GAA is  now without a manager and backroom team for both the hurling and football panels.
