Garryowen win battle to stay up

-

GARRYOWEN will play in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League next season after a well deserved win over Buccaneers in a relegation play off last Saturday evening.

Second half tries from James Rael and Paul Neville helped Garryowen get the better of Buccaneers at a sunny Dooradoyle as the light Blues ran out deserving 23-9 winners against the midlanders.
Alan Gaughan kicked two conversions and three penalties on the day to make sure that the Dooradoyle based side will be playing in the top tier next season.
This season’s Garryowen side, coached by Paul Cunningham are a blend of youth and experience. The Limerick club had been at the bottom of the table for large parts of the season, however, the spirt shown on Saturday will stand to them next season, as, like other Limerick sides, the search for improvement begins.
The win on Saturday was made all the more sweet as the Garryowen men had to do without Munster scrum half Conor Murray who was not available, due to having been rested by Munster.
