New GAA HQ for Limerick

THIS week at the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel in Limerick, Munster GAA signed a contract with Griffin Brothers Contracting Limited to build a new Headquarters to house the officers and staff of Munster GAA at Annacotty, Limerick. The purpose built 10,000 square foot facility once opened in the summer of 2012 will provide a home for all GAA activities in the province of Munster. In addition to the Coaching and Administration staff of Munster GAA, office space will be provided for other GAA affiliated bodies including Handball, Ladies Football and Camogie.

 

The construction phase will also provide employment for 15 workers at its peak. This follows on from the contribution that the GAA has made to the construction industry in Munster in 2009 and 2010 which is valued at €33 million. In addition Munster GAA matches in 2010 were worth up to €15 million to the local economy.

Munster GAA Chairman Sean Walsh speaking at the signing said “Today’s event comes at the end of the comprehensive tendering process. We are delighted to officially begin the task of constructing what will be an iconic building to serve the needs of Munster GAA in to the future.”

Ger Griffin, Managing Director of Griffin Brothers Contracting Ltd said that he was delighted to be associated with this prestigious and distinctive project. He went on to say that the company were glad to be renewing their association with the GAA, having previously completed the re-development of Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney in 2009.
