Athea Road Races marks 10th year

ATHEA Motorcycle Road Race Club are holding their 10th annual road racing event on Saturday 23 and Sunday July 24  2011.  It is one of the most looked forward to road races on the national road racing calendar with many hotels and B&B’s already experiencing increased bookings for accommodation for the event in 2011.  There will be an 11 race programme over the course of the weekend and the local roads will close at 10.00am both days.

All the top riders from The Isle of Man TT will be returning to Athea to compete in the Irish Motorcycle Road Racing Championships. The 2011 prize money is the largest to date with €5,000 to the winner of the Grand Final.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening there will be seminars in the Community Centre in relation to road safety. On Friday evening the Road Safety Authority will be in attendance with the RSA Shuttle vehicle in the main street. The shuttle will be open throughout the road races and is an absolute must see for all ages.
Over the weekend there will be great fun and activities for all the family with Mad For Road performing in the square at 8 o clock on Friday night.
Saturday is practice day, when all the riders get to test out the three mile circuit.
On the Sunday (Race Day), racing will get under way at 10am sharp. Patrons are advised to come early as racing is expected to finish at 4pm.
Most of all we wish all the riders a very safe meeting and we look forward to welcoming everyone to Athea Road Races 2011.
