Pensioner charged with alleged sexual assault

A 77-year-old man appeared at Limerick District Court having been charged with the alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old minor in Limerick City in July 2010.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared on the single charge after being arrested on the outskirts of the city and brought to Roxboro Garda Station.
He made no reply when charged, and was represented by his solicitor Sarah Ryan, who sought bail on behalf of her client.

The DPP directed that the matter was to proceed in the District Court on a plea of guilty only, or in the case of a not guilty plea being entered, would then proceed to the Circuit Court on trial on indictment.
The case was adjourned until December.
