Warning as handbag thefts increase

FEMALES are being warned not to put themselves in danger to protect their property as the theft of handbags continues to be a problem around Limerick with three such incidents having occurred in the past week. On November 2, a woman in her 20’s was out walking her dog at Shannon Drive in Corbally when she was approached from behind by two youths who pushed her to the ground and stole her handbag. The bag was black with a clasp on the front and contained €40 in cash and a driving licence.

The culprits were described as 15 or 16 years of age, one about 5’10” in height and was wearing a dark hoodie and dark tracksuit pants
The second was smaller and was wearing a grey and blue hoodie with stripes.
On Cratloe Road, at 9.30pm on November 3, a woman in her 30’s was walking home from a shop in Woodview when two youths came from behind and grabbed her handbag, which contained €100 in cash, a driving licence, a debit card and some keys.
The youths were described as 15 or 16 years of age and about 5’5” in height and were wearing dark tracksuits, while one wore a hoody bearing an ‘S’ and was wearing white socks.
In the county a woman was getting out of her car at a unit in the Kilmallock Industrial Estate at 4.10pm on November 2 when two males opened the passenger door of the car and grabbed her handbag.
The bag contained €300 in cash, a driving licence, a shopping voucher and various cards.
One of the culprits was described as tall and wearing a light grey hoody, while the second wore a dark hoody.
