Carols for all

University Concert Hall is operating a city centre box office in the convenient surrounds of Hunt Museum until Saturday January 5, 11-3pm weekdays; Sundays 2-5pm
‘CAROLS For All’ at UCH has become a delightful tradition for families all over the Mid West. Take the afternoon out next Sunday December 2 with the children to  enjoy friends, carols, Santa Claus telling stories, panto characters, gorgeous singing and a terrific atmosphere.

Limerick’s Life 95fm ‘Carols for All’ takes place at 3pm next Sunday 2, following on from the Christmas Craft Fair (free entrance) that opens on campus at noon. And hot on the sharp-dressed heels of their Late Late Show appearance on Friday 23, teenage mod rockers The Strypes have confirmed their concert hall appearance for this fun-loving show. This is the band whom NME billed as the “hottest unsigned band in the UK and Ireland right now!”
With an average age of 15, The Strypes will rev up this family gig with real fire-power.
Familiar favourites are back too: “This year’s concert once again features the talented Limerick County Youth Choir and The John Daly Band,” reports Emma Foote, marketing manager at UCH. “The County Youth Choir has over 30 members ranging in age from 16 to 23 under the experienced baton of Maire Keary Scanlon”.
There’s more in the wings and we can look forward to an impressive suite of special guests to make the show really sing.
Irish Chamber Orchestra’s Kathleen Turner will MC on the day; Limerick soprano Roisin Walsh performs ‘O Holy Night’ and winner of Limerick’s Live 95fm 2010/2011 Talent Search, Hannah O’Brien will showcase her songs. Cinderella’s Ugly Sisters Myles Breen and Richard Lynch are sure to raise a laugh and many a ‘Oh, Yes We Will’ thrown back in their painted faces.
As always, Santa is highlight. He will appear when all children present are invited on stage for a snow-sprinkled reading of ‘The Night Before Christmas’. A happy, talented and inventive festive show for all the family, tickets are a modest €10.  See www.uch.ie for offers and come along for the fair.
