AN ARCHAEOLOGIST will supervise the building of a teenage playground in Newcastle West. The proposed facility, which will include a skate park and a multi-use game area, will be built near the existing children’s playground in the town. It will be located 250 metres from Desmond castle which is a recorded monument. As a result the Limerick county archaeologist has requested that a professional monitor the build. Should any historic material be found work will be stopped. The Gardaí have welcomed to the facility and see the introduction of CCTV at the site as “very positive and welcome”.
