In the Doghouse

AUGUST’S ‘On the Nail’ gathering at The Locke Bar will take place after the bank holiday, Tuesday 6 at 8pm.

“This month we devote our guest spot to Kerry publisher, Doghouse Books, whose recent anthology ‘Ten Years in the Doghouse’ features the work of 29 writers,” writes in Dominic Taylor. “We welcome a selection of writers from the anthology to read on the night”.

‘Ten Years in the DOGHOUSE: An Anthology’ is of new work by poets who have had solo collections published by Doghouse 2003 – 2013. Many names are Limerick based such as Mark Whelan, Mae Leonard and John W Sexton.

“Everyone is invited to take part in the open-mic after the main event.. poets, storytellers, musicians and writers. Even if you don’t write you are welcome to bring something along to read,” says  Taylor, himself of Limerick Writers Centre. “So join us on the night and make this event something special”. 8pm and free to all souls who value the written word read.

Harp gigs and workshops

JANET Harbison of the Irish Harp Centre, Castleconnell and members of the National Harp Orchestra continue with lunchtime concerts in The Hunt Museum. Each is followed by a ‘Try out the Harp’ workshop at minimal cost.

You can attend to the Captain’s Room at 1pm for Wednesday July 31′s ’From Planxty to  Playhouse – A Modern Showcase’

The consequent workshop is streamed for all ages and lots of baby harps are provided.
