ENGINE failure on board a Canadair Challenger 604 jet 100km off the Irish coast forced the aircraft to declare an emergency and land at Shannon Airport on Friday.

The crew of eight, including it’s captain, notified air traffic control in Shannon of the difficulty and the Airport’s emergency plan was implemented and the HSE, local authority fire services and gardaí were alerted.

Shortly after 5pm, the plane, originally bound for Luton from Canada, landed without incident.
