Do the Math!

PV 131013 science 5THE University of Limerick-based National Centre for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and Learning (NCE-MSTL) will partner the country’s largest community-based Science and Maths Family Fair in Mallow this Sunday, October 12.

Now in its fourth year, the event has attracted some 10,000 children and parents to date and this year will again be held in Mallow’s GAA complex. Working with the promoters of the fair, Mallow Development Partnership and the NCE-MSTL at University of Limerick, will be some of the of the country’s top educational and commercial institutions.

Aimed at all the family, the emphasis will be on fun and entertainment and will feature a whole range of interactive demonstrations including robotics, space walk simulation, chemistry magic as well as give away items and entertainment.

However, behind all the fun of the fair is a more serious objective which is to encourage young people to embrace Science and Maths as subjects which can be the pathway to stimulating career opportunities later on.

The Science and Maths Fair takes place at the GAA complex in Mallow from 12 noon to 3.30pm this Sunday, October 12. Children of all ages and their parents are welcome and admission is free.
