Simon Callow’s stunning portrayal of ‘The Man Jesus’ comes to Limerick

A Simon CallowRENOWNED British stage actor Simon Callow comes to 69 O’Connell Street on Saturday November 1 to star in the play ‘The Man Jesus’.

Written by Matthew Hurt and directed by Joseph Alford, this extraordinary play goes back 2,000 years to witness pivotal moments in the life of ‘the man Jesus’, through the eyes of the people who knew him.

Simon Callow performs this fresh and moving account of biblical stories including the raising of Lazarus, the wedding at Cana and the journey to Jerusalem.

His powerful portrayal of the tyrants, traitors and madmen in Jesus’ life asks people of all faiths and none: What sort of a man was able to inspire the history of the world?

Thought-provoking, thrilling and full of wit, this production premiered at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre and is nearing the end of a successful UK and Ireland tour.

Callow has become renowned for a series of one-man shows, which have toured the United Kingdom and internationally. These began with a West End production of ‘The Importance of Being Oscarand included ‘The Mystery of Charles Dickensby Peter Ackroyd and ’Being Shakespeare by Jonathan Bate.

On screen, he is best known for his roles in ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’, ‘Shakespeare in Love’, ‘Room with a View and ‘Amadeus‘. Simon Callow has worked in television for more than 30 years and has directed in excess of 30 shows, including ‘Carmen Jones and the West End/Broadway productions of ‘Shirley Valentine‘. 

He has directed many operas and written 16 books. Book through Lime Tree Theatre.
