Kieran O’Donnell TD has welcomed the introduction of a free parking scheme across Limerick this Christmas.

The scheme offers shoppers two hours free parking from 3pm in Limerick city and county over the Christmas period.

“This is great news. I’m delighted by the local authority’s decision, which will benefit shoppers and traders right across Limerick city and county. When the Christmas lights are turned on this month in Limerick, it will also herald the start of a period of free parking for shoppers,” said Deputy O’Donnell.

“The decision comes on foot the council’s discussion of my proposal to provide two hours free parking every morning in Limerick over the Christmas period. I formally made my proposal last month in conjunction with the Limerick City Business Association after conducting extensive research with traders in Limerick city.  The proposal is endorsed by the extension of the scheme to the towns around the county.  This should be a benefit both to shoppers and to traders,” he commented.

The Fine Gael TD went on to describe the scheme as a “win-win for Limerick, for shoppers and for traders”.

“It is very important to learn from this year’s experience and to build on it in the future. We need to do all we can to maximise Limerick’s attractiveness and vibrancy,” he concluded.
