GARDAI in Limerick investigating the attempted murder of convicted drug dealer Christy Keane have arrested a woman in her 20s this Thursday evening.

The woman, who was brought into custody at 8:30pm, is currently detained for questioning at Roxboro Garda Station under section 30 of the Criminal Justice act.

Last Monday morning, as Keane walked towards the Sports Arena at the University of Limerick, two masked and armed men approached him and opened fire.

Keane was hit four times and remains in hospital.

The two men fled and two cars were found on fire in Monaleen and Drombana a short time later.

Two hand guns, said to have been in poor condition, were found in one of the cars and they have been sent for technical and forensic examination.

Meantime, a 37-year-old man who was arrested on Monday night remains in garda custody at Henry Street after Judge Marian O’Leary, at a special court sitting in Kilmallock, extended his period of detention until next Saturday.

Gardai are investigating a number of lines and suspects but it is believed that a number of feuding factions have been linked to the shooting.
