River search stood down

coast-guard-helicopter-390x285ย A SEARCH for a person reportedly seen entering the water at Sarsfield Bridge was stood down in the early hours of the morning, with rescue personnel describing it as โ€œa good intentโ€ call rather than a hoax call.

Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, Limerick City Fire and Rescue and the Shannon-based rescue helicopter began conducting a search on an area of the river close to the Strand Hotel at approximately 11.30pm last night after a member of the public reported seeing a person entering the water.

Peter Hogan, PRO with Limerick Marine Search and Rescue told the Limerick Post: โ€œIt was a good intent call. Somebody rang in because they thought they saw somebody enter the water at the front of the Strand Hotel.

โ€œHowever at the time there was a very low tide so the person would have broken their neck rather than going in the water. For safety reasons just to double check we did a dive and nobody was found so it was stood down around 2am.โ€
