Male rescued from river bank in Limerick

A YOUNG male has been rescued from the River Shannon after the emergency services were alerted an early morning incident on O’Callaghan’s Strand.

At around 4.30am this Tuesday morning, Limerick Fire & Rescue Service received a report from a person in the Harvey’s Quay area that they heard a splash and a male call for help.

Three units of the fire service attended, including their rescue boat Fire swift as well as Gardai from Henry Street.

After searching the Harvey’s quay area a call for help was heard from O’Callaghan’s Strand where a male, believed to be in his late 20’s was located on the river bank by Fire Service Swiftwater Rescue Technicians.

He was treated by fire service personnel for possible hyperthermia and handed over to HSE paramedics where he received further treatment and assessment on scene before being transferred to UHL.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
