THIS weekend Friday 2 to Sunday 4, hundreds of gigs will take place across Ireland and the UK under the banner of ‘We Shall Overcome’. Limerick’s will light up at The Loft Venue, George’s Quay on Sunday 4th from 3pm to 7pm. The organisers hope this show of solidarity will “highlight the human cost of the politics of austerity”.

Here and abroad, performers will entertain audiences who are asked to bring non-perishable food for foodbanks or goods, or make donations to homelessness and other projects.

Ray Burke of Wired FM’s programme ‘Left of the Dial’ and Dominic Taylor of Limerick Writers’ Centre are behind the drive locally. “‘We Shall Overcome’ is part of an anti-austerity movement but is also very much pro-community. We wanted to do our bit here in Limerick to show solidarity and be part of something big that’s happening right across the country”.
