COMEDY duo The Rubberbandits will again write and narrate for the ITV2’s ‘The Almost Impossible Gameshow’. Now commissioned for a second series, the adventure show challenges ten contestants to complete multiple challenges with names such as ‘Bum Magnet’ or ‘Yum Yum Run’, all narrated by the Limerick comedy duo.
The duo will present their unique guide to 1916 on RTE on New Year’s Eve, but the only chance to see The Rubberbandits live in Ireland this Christmas is in Dolan’s this Monday December 28. We caught up with Blindboy Boatclub to listen to his yuletide musings,

LP: What was your highlight of 2015?

BB: “The highlight for us was definitely being asked to represent Ireland at the Venice Biennale, and exhibiting our work in two galleries in Japan. Our artistic movement ‘Gas C*ntism’ is finally being recognised internationally as an important, post-Derek Davis artistic genre. Which is a lot to be said for an art movement that’s run out of the back room of a victualler’s. Another highlight for us was when our DJ, DJ Willie O’Dea J, developed a mole on his back that looked a bit like the ISIS flag and he was nearly asked to be on Jeremy Kyle. A man in Janesboro removed it with duct tape and a kettle.”

LP: What is the most Limerick thing to do at Christmas?

BB: “There’s a tradition dating as far back as the times of Patrick Sarsfield, where a frozen duck or goose is first placed on the Raheen bus, before being considered appropriate to eat. The goose must travel from the centre of town, to Raheen and back, at least once. This journey usually takes place on the 21st December to coincide with the solstice. The purpose of the journey is to encourage a form of gentle fermentation on the duck’s skin, as a result of a microbial yeast that is only present in Raheen. The most tender flesh can be achieved if the bird’s journey happens halfway through sunset. Busses full of frozen geese are not an uncommon sight in Limerick at Christmas.”

LP: Limerick rapper Weenz has a great new track ‘Local Celebrity’ just out based on his appearance on the Horse Outside video. Any words of wisdom for Weenz?

BB: “It’s a class Tune. The only advice I’d give to Weenz is to always make sure that he has an interesting haircut. If he could get a haircut that’s the same shape as rap music, then success will follow.”

LP: What can we expect in The Rubberbandits universe in 2016?

BB: “The Brits will reinvade and we’ll have to storm the GPO again. Except this time we’ll have iphones for communication so it will be easier.”

Rubberbandits Christmas Fistfight plays at Dolan’s Warehouse on Sunday December 27. dolans.ie.
