Teenager uses the ‘Nutella defence’ in faeces charge

-

A 14-year-old who smeared faeces on a childcare worker claimed it was Nutella chocolate spread, Limerick Children’s Court has heard.

Judge Marian O’Leary was told that the boy asked the care worker for his nasal spray and after using it, smeared faeces on the man’s hand. He later told Gardaí that he was getting back at staff.

The worker subsequently found that faeces had been smeared on the handle of an office door.

Defence solicitor Sarah Ryan said that the boy claimed it was Nutella spread but the care worker said he was sure it was faecal matter as he could “smell it”.

After finding the teenager guilty of the offence, Judge O’Leary adjourned the case for a pre-sanction report.
