Limericks Darren Named Mr Gay Ireland 2018

Saturday night saw the Limerick heat for Mr & Ms Gay Limerick 2018. Held in Dolans Warehouse and organised by Limerick LGBTQ+ Pride.

The night consisted of 9 contestants fighting for the title to represent Limerick in the national finals to be held later this year. The competition was judged by TV3 Exposé Stylist Sinead O’Brien, six time world champion power lifter Angie Mc, HPV vaccine advocate Laura Brennan, Spin South West presenter Meghann Scully, Jim Lawless aka Auntie Lily and LGBT+ Activist Konrad Im.

At the beginning of the night Mr Gay Limerick ’17, Darren Moloney, was surprised with the title of Mr Gay Ireland ’18 by former Mr Gay Ireland’s Konrad Im(2016) and Stephen Lehane(2017). Chosen by the organisers of Mr Gay Ireland for his fantastic work with the LGBT+ community over the past year, Darren will now go forward to represent Ireland at the Mr Gay Europe final being held in Poland on 4th-12th August.

“We’ve been keeping a close eye on the work our MGI representatives have been doing all year to help the LGBT+ community here in Ireland. And Darren has particularly showed amazing dedication and passion in his work with different organisations and as Limerick LGBTQ+ Pride Chairperson. We’re honoured to have him represent Ireland at the Mr Gay Europe final in Poland. And look forward to seeing and working with the remaining contestants who will join us for next year’s final” – Konrad Im.

The winners of the night, chosen to represent the Limerick LGBT+ community for the coming year were; Clodagh O’Brien Ms Gay Limerick 2018, Ryan Mowat who will go forward as Mr Gay Limerick Pride 2018 and L.I.T. Social Studies student, Eoin Sexton was chosen as Mr Gay Limerick 2018.
