Man arrested over fatal Limerick stabbing

A MAN in his 40s has been arrested in Limerick in connection with a fatal stabbing at a city pub last Saturday night.

24-year-old Patrick “Pa” O’Connor from Kileely received serious stab wounds at Fitzgerald’s bar on Sexton Street North in Thomondgate shortly before midnight on Saturday.

It is understood that the Mr O’Connor was in the bar with his alleged attacker at the time.

Mr O’Connor was brought to University Hospital Limerick but died as a result of the stabbing an hour later.

A postmortem examination by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster will uncover the exact cause of death and support the Garda investigation.

Garda technical investigators and scenes of crime experts are examining the area where Mr O’Connor was killed.

Superintendent Derek Smart of Henry Street Garda Station issued an appeal to the public on Sunday for anyone that may have been in the vicinity or in the pub and has information to contact Garda at Mayorstone on 061 456 980 or on the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

The arrested man is in garda custody at Henry Street and has been detained under section 4 of the criminal justice act 1984 and can be kept for a period of 24 hours.
