With Clare and Kerry endorsing Mr Casey, the Dragon’s Den star is likely to secure his fourth and final council endorsement when he visits Tipperary, Longford and Donegal where he has strong ties to the county.

Senator Joan Freeman and fellow Dragons’ Den stars Sean Gallagher and Gavin Duffy also secured the backing of four local authorities each and will feature on the October 26 ballot paper along with Sinn Féin candidate Liadh Ní Riada and President Michael D Higgins.

Councillors voted 21-3 in favour of Mr Casey with eight abstentions recorded.

This Tuesday, nomination hopefuls included Gemma O’Doherty, Marie Goretti Moylan, Sarah Louise Mulligan and businessman John O’Hare.
