EI celebrates anniversary as Shannon’s biggest employer

-

EI Electronics, which was one of the first generation of manufacturing industries on the Shannon Industrial Estate, will be holding an open day on this Sunday to celebrate a landmark anniversary.

The company will be marking 55 years in Shannon and 30 years as an Irish-owned company and is inviting all past and present employees and their families as well as customers, local residents and schools to join them for the party.

The Open Day will provide a unique opportunity for a behind the scenes view of the largest employer in Shannon, with more than 700 employees and exports to 30 countries.

Over half a century ago, in 1963, General Electric (USA) established a fledgeling Irish manufacturing operation in Shannon; the EI or ‘Emerald Isle’ Company as it was originally known.

25 years later in 1988, following a management buyout of General Electric’s Irish interests in Shannon led by the then managing director Mick Guinee and other members of his team, the company became EI Electronics.

Speaking about their 55 years of doing business, chief executive Mick Guinee said that the aim at the outset was to “maintain valuable manufacturing jobs in Shannon and build a successful and sustainable international business.

“Now after 55 years, we have become the largest employer in Shannon. Our open day is a celebration of all of that and a tribute to our employees past and present”.

“Our success is a tribute to the dedication of very many people over several decades. We are particularly proud of the fact that over the years we have made a valuable contribution to our local community and this region, making it a better place to live and work for the current and future generations,” Mr Guinee explained.

As Ireland’s largest indigenous electronics manufacturer and exporter, EI continues to grow and expand, and the management welcomes any potential candidates to come along on the day and see what career opportunities the company has to offer. This will be facilitated through a dedicated careers desk.

The company is laying on a barbecue, refreshments, children’s and adults entertainment as well as tours of the company.
