Gig tickets are great for Christmas

A Christmas gift of concert tickets is like two presents in one, the day a fan gets the gift of tickets and the date of the concert itself – a day to look forward to for the weeks ahead. Limerick Post selects concerts and shows in the city that promise a tremendous night out.

Flash Harry: A Celebration of Queen

FLASH Harry has been celebrating the music of Queen for over 20 years. With a huge resurgence in Queen’s popularity following the release of the critically acclaimed movie Bohemian Rhapsody, the demand to see and hear their music live is as high as it has been the heady days of post-Live Aid 1980s. Flash Harry’s faithful tribute to Queen has drawn fans of the band in over the years to enjoy the quality of the performances and the sheer entertainment value of their show.

This show embraces live music in its purest essence say organisers.

ROCK the Ledge returns to Limerick

PAUL Howard’s brilliantly observed creation Ross O’Carroll-Kelly is the gift that just keeps giving and his new play ‘Postcards from the Ledge’ is just “wicked smart, very sharp and really funny,” says Rory Nolan who has played Ross for over ten years in all four stage plays.

Paul Howard’s character Ross O’Carroll-Kelly started life in a newspaper column almost 20 years ago. He has since become the star of a critically acclaimed series of books

In this solo show, ROCK finds himself at another junction in his busy life: his daughter is getting married to a man he thinks is not suitable, he is about to sell a house for his estate agents, Hook, Lyne and Sinker, it turns out the be the house he grew up in,  a house in Sallynoggin a less than salubrious area in South County Dublin.

Speaking about the Irish tour, Ross O’Carroll-Kelly said:  “I have to tell you that the Rossmeister General is excited in a big time way to be bringing my act to Cork and Limerick in the New Year. These are heady times indeed for the people of Munster. They’ve got Joey Corbery, they’ve got Donnybrook Fair – and now they’re getting me!

“It’s great to be going to Galway, too, as it’s rare that people on that side of the world get to see a world class rugby player up close! And what can I say about Dun Laoghaire? Home of the haves and the have-yachts. The Lambo is fully fuelled and read to drive. I just can’t wait.”

‘Postcards from the Ledge’ plays at University Concert Hall on Tuesday February 12 to Saturday February 16. Tickets now from www.uch.ie

David O’Doherty

CELEBRATING a hugely successful headline slot at Electric Picnic Comedy Tent 2018 where he performed a polished set to thousands, David O’Doherty will play two nights in Dolan’s Warehouse in 2019.

His new show ‘You Have to Laugh’ is made up of talking and songs played on a crappy keyboard from 1986.

He won Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny? Competition and received a nomination for Perrier Best Newcomer for his Edinburgh Fringe show. He has guested on TV favourites ‘QI’, ‘Have I Got News For You’ and ‘8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’.

David in typical fashion credits himself as being the “least famous person ever to have hosted an episode of ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’.”

David O’Doherty plays Dolans Warehouse on Friday March 8 and Saturday March 9, 2019.

Angela’s Ashes The Musical returns

After breaking box office records at the Lime Tree Theatre, ‘Angela’s Ashes – The Musical’ comes home for a strictly limited run of 11 performances in July. The Limerick run marks the beginning of the musical’s next chapter with performances scheduled for Edinburgh, Dublin, Cork and Belfast.

With music and lyrics written by Adam Howell and based on the memoir by Frank McCourt, Ellen McCourt is excited to see the play return to the city that inspired the story.

“I, of course, am thrilled that the musical will have another life.  Adam Howell’s glorious music deserves to be heard by a wider audience and Frank’s humanity and humour, so deftly translated to the stage by Paul Hurt, will remind Limerick audiences of why they loved the book in the first place.  Delighted it’s coming back!”

Running at the Lime Tree Theatre from Thursday July 18 to Saturday July 27. Tickets from www.limetreetheatre.ie
