FINE Gael has added Brian Oโ€™Connor and Eleanor McSherry as candidates for Limerick City North in the upcoming local elections.

Ms McSherry and Mr Oโ€™Connor will contest the Local Elections on Friday, May 24ย along with their party colleagues Denis McCarthy and Olivia Oโ€™Sullivan, who were selected at the Limerick City North convention on January 28.

Eleanor McSherry from the Ennis Road is heavily involved in cultural activity in Limerick City and co-founder of the Richard Harris Film Festival. She is also co-founder of the Special Needs Parents Association. Eleanor has lived in the area for over 40 years.

โ€œAreas I hope to address in local government include improvement of the local transport system; higher Garda presence in the area and better supports and initiatives for carers, people with disabilities and mental health issues in the community,โ€ she said.

Brian Oโ€™Connor from Thomondgate is a full-time carer and former member of the Defences Forces. A volunteer at St Munchinโ€™s Community Centre, he is part of the team that delivers โ€˜Meals on Wheelsโ€™ to almost 200 elderly and deserving clients across Limerick City.

Mr Oโ€™Connor was also part of the team that established Limerick City Community Radio in 2013.

โ€œI have been supporting, participating with and leading community members in taking collective action and recently mobilised the support of over 100 people to generate a solution to a local issue.

โ€œCommunity enhancement and development is an activity that I take great pride and enjoyment from. As a committee member of Thomondgate Residentโ€™s Association I have garnered vital insight and familiarity with issues affecting people in Limerick,โ€ he said.
