Sheehan calls for Limerick City recycling centre to remain open

-

LIMERICK City North Labour Councillor Conor Sheehan has called for the closure of the Park Road Recycling Centre at Rhebogue to be reversed.

This means there will be no recycling centre in the City centre bar some bottle banks.

“I can’t understand the logic behind closing this well used community facility.

“We are living through a climate breakdown at the moment and we need to do everything we can to encourage people to recycle,” he said.

With less recycling centres in Limerick City, residents must travel to dispose of rubbish and Councillor Sheehan believes this will cause illegal dumping.

“Forcing the residents of Corbally, Rhebogue and the surrounding areas to travel nearly a half hour by car to Mungret to recycle all goods except for bottles and cans does not make any sense.

“Illegal dumping is a big issue and Limerick has slipped down the latest IBAL litter league survey with three litter black-spots in the city.” he added.

Councillor Sheehan will be proposing that the recycle centre remain open at the next Council meeting.
