A BALLOT for industrial action at the University of Limerick (UL) has been called off.

The decision follows an announcement by UL president Des Fitzgerald that the restructuring plan for the campus has been “paused”.

The Governing Authority has also announced that a working group will be established with representation of the academic, technical and support staff of the university to oversee a programme of discussion regarding the future shape of the university.

Unions representing all grades at UL had been due to ballot for action this week in a row over what they described as lack of detail about how plans would affect staff.
