Barrett Appointed as Treaty United Manager

TREATY United have unveiled Tommy Barrett as the club’s new senior men’s manager.

The club have announced the appointment despite the fact that they await the results of the Airtricity League First Division license application for the 2021 season.

Treaty formally announced the appointment this evening:

“Treaty United is delighted to announce Tommy Barrett as Senior Manager at the football club. Tommy has previously held the positions of League of Ireland Coach and Manager since 2013 and along with being Under 19 and Caretaker Manager at Limerick FC went on to manage the senior team in 2017.

“A current UEFA Pro licence holder, a former league of Ireland player with Limerick FC, Shamrock Rovers and Athlone Town and an FAI Junior Cup
winner at Fairview Rangers.”

Speaking about his appointment, Barrett confirmed that he is delighted to be back in management at Airtricity League level.

“I’m delighted personally to be handed a huge responsibility by the board. My ambition was always to stay involved in league of Ireland , I’m thrilled I can do this at my hometown club.

“I am very passionate about progressing football in the Mid West, I can’t wait to get back on the pitch with players and with the collective focus at the club now in progress I’m excited for
the future”

The former Limerick FC and Shamrock Rovers player returns to Airtricity League management following a 12 month absence after the decline of Limerick FC in late 2019. He has made no secret of his desire to become involved in League of Ireland management once more.

The new League of Ireland hopefuls which also includes Irish Sea FC, were informed that they may not find out if their applications are successful until February 23rd, just one month before the league season is due to begin. Also, the Airtricity League First Division fixture list is going to be released on Monday, February 8th.

It makes the situation extremely difficult for Barrett who only has six weeks from now to assemble a squad for a very competitive First Division campaign. Chairman Conn Murray said that the club’s board identified Tommy Barrett as their preferred candidate from an early stage.

“ We have worked extremely hard in the background over the past 9 months, from an early stage of our recruitment we identified Tommy as a good fit for Treaty United.

“His experience in the league will be crucial and his record at developing younger players is evident when you look around the country and further afield. He is still a relatively young manager and we look forward to giving him the time and support he will need to progress football in the region”
