“There is extreme overcrowding in UHL this morning” – UHL

212 admitted patients are waiting for beds this morning, according to today’s INMO Trolley Watch. 177 patients are waiting in the emergency department, while 35 are in wards elsewhere in the hospital.

Regarding overcrowding in University Hospital Limerick, an INMO spokesperson said:

“There is extreme overcrowding in UHL this morning with 81 admitted patients awaiting a bed at 8am.

“Over the last year UHL has opened over a hundred new beds, but we are still seeing huge overcrowding. INMO members report a massive number of patients, with serious problems in getting enough staff to care for them.

“Our members are exhausted and frustrated. This is a dangerous situation at the best of times, but is much more so during a pandemic.”
