Martin keeps cool after €1 million lottery win

A YOUNG Castletroy father who is reported to have won €1 million after buying a ticket for the Lotto Daily Millions draw at Eason’s in the Parkway Shopping Centre last week would not officially confirm the win but said “it’s a good feeling.”

Martin Casey (36) is widely believed to have been the holder of the ticket which pulled in €1 million last week.

The source who revealed the identity of the winner to the media is a member of the Travelling community who said that Travellers “get a lot of bad press. It’s time people heard some good news about us for a change.”

“This will change Martin’s life and he has a young family so it’s great news for everyone,” he added.

When asked about the win, Mr Casey said he would have to ask his solicitor about answering that question but said “Thank God, yeah.”

He had also been congratulated on Facebook and other social media by friends and relatives.

The winning ticket was a Quick Pick brought in Eason’s in the Parkway Shopping Centre on Tuesday week just a few hours before the draw.

Eunan Boylan, area manager for Eason’s said it was their biggest lottery win so far for the store.

At the time, staff and management had no idea who had won but Mr Boylan said: “We have lots of local customers so it’s great that it might be someone in the area.

“We wish the winner all the best and we hope they enjoy their new fortune.”

He is the second National Lottery millionaire from Limerick so far this year following an online player who won the €8,530,884 Lotto jackpot in the January 27 draw.

A National Lottery spokeswoman said the draw proved to be truly life-changing for the lucky Limerick ticket holder who is now Ireland’s newest National Lottery millionaire.

“We are advising the winning ticket holder to sign the back of the ticket and make contact with our prize claims team who will make arrangements for them to collect their prize,” she added.
