Limerick clinics to help smokers quit the habit

SMOKERS struggling with their new year resolutions to give up cigarettes will be offered support from twelve local clinics in Limerick.

The new HSE service is free and staffed by qualified stop smoking advisers who provide one-to-one support to people who are quitting smoking or thinking about quitting.

The treatment programme includes an initial assessment of nicotine-dependency, weekly support during the first four weeks, and advice on using Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). The service is available by phone, by video link and in person.

The recent Healthy Ireland survey showed that 44 per cent  of people who smoke have attempted to quit in the last 12 months.
