#BREAKING: Witness appeal as man dies after Limerick City assault

GARDAÍ have appealed for witnesses or video footage as part of an investigation into the death of a man who was assaulted in Limerick City overnight.

The victim, who was in his 40s, was found with serious injuries on Parnell Street around 10.25pm. He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where he was later pronounced dead.

“Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault of a man that occurred at Parnell Street, Limerick, yesterday evening. The scene is currently preserved to allow for a technical examination to take place,” said a Garda spokesman.

“The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem will be conducted later today,” he added.

Gardaí at Roxboro Road station (061214340) have appealed for information.

“Any person who was in the Parnell Street, Lord Edward Street and Davis Street areas of Limerick last night, between 10pm and 10:40pm, who may have camera footage of the area is asked to make this available to Gardaí.

“Similarly, if any road user was travelling in the area and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí,” said the Garda spokesman.

“Any person with any information which may be relevant to the Garda investigation should contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214 340, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station,” he said.

“No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing,” the spokesman added.
