A GARDA investigation is under way following a drowning incident in County Limerick in which a man in his seventies lost his life at a popular swimming spot.
It is understood the man got into difficulty yesterday evening while swimming at Kilteery Pier, near Loughill on the Shannon Estuary.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene around 7.45pm and the man was taken from the water. Paramedics worked to revive him but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The man’s body was taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem will be carried out.
