Toyota Vitz and Aqua targeted by Limerick car thieves

The Toyota Aqua is a target for car thieves in Limerick.

GARDAÍ in Limerick have seen an increase in stolen Japanese imported cars and are now advising owners to take extra safety measures.

According to Limerick Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sgt Ber Leetch this relates specifically to Toyota Vitz and Toyota Aqua models.  She said that these particular cars have poor security measures and opportunistic thieves are aware of this.

“A Toyota Vitz was stolen from Lower Gerald Griffin Street, another Vitz was taken from South Circular Road, and a third Vitz from Father Russell Road,” Sgt Leetch explained.

“A Toyota Aqua was taken from Castletroy while attempts were made to take a Toyota Vitz from Westbury and a Toyota Aqua from Windmill Street.”

Gardaí advise anyone with a Japanese imported car to add another layer of security to it by using a steering wheel lock or a robust chain to lock the steering wheel in place. They also suggest parking these cars behind other cars in a driveway or as close as possible to households or under outdoor lighting.
