Limerick employers encouraged to nominate an apprentice for national awards

EMPLOYERS in Limerick are encouraged to nominate an exceptional apprentice who ‘walks the walk’ of leadership, teamwork, creativity and problem-solving for the 2023 Apprentice of the Year Awards.

The awards, organised by the National Apprenticeship Office, aim to celebrate the wealth of talent, innovation, and success shown by Ireland’s 26,000+ apprentices.

This is the second year of the awards and organisers are hoping to build on the success of last year when 184 apprentices were nominated.

Last year’s Apprentice of the Year was Brian Riordan of Designer Group.

Last year, the first-ever Generation Apprenticeship ‘Apprentice of the Year’ Awards were held in the Mansion House Dublin, hosted by RTE star Dermot Bannon, with over 500 guests in attendance.

Minister Simon Harris presented the awards to 12 exceptional apprentices including Commis Chef apprentices, Megan Watkins (Tipperary), Patryk Mierzejewski (Cork), Electrical Instrumentation apprentice Owen Kenny (Cork) and first-ever Irish national ‘Apprentice of the Year’ winner, Brian Riordan.

Minister Harris said: “This is a really exciting time for apprenticeships. The awards are a chance to celebrate our apprentices and the businesses who have taken them on. I would encourage anyone to consider an apprenticeship.”

“This is third-level education and you can earn as you learn. It is time to get involved and help us build the next generation of apprentices,” he concluded.

Nominations can be submitted online on apprenticeship.ie. The closing date for nominations is June 16.
