THE Thomond Swim is all set to make a big splash on the majestic River Shannon on August 26 as swimmers take to the water in the shadow of King John’s Castle.

Organised by the Limerick Master’s Swimming Club, the open-water swimming event has a rich history in Limerick City.

The Thomond Swim, now in its 20th year in “modern times”, has become a beloved annual tradition for Limerick locals and visitors alike. Originating in the early 1950s, the event was inspired by the city’s deep-rooted connection to the River Shannon.

This year, the Thomond Swim will take place at 1.45pm on August 26, offering participants the chance to revel in the breathtaking views of King John’s Castle while floating on the River Shannon’s gentle currents along the 1.7km stretch of the route.

Spectators are encouraged to line the riverbanks and cheer on the swimmers, creating an atmosphere to remember.
