Doon Social Farm teaches the lessons of the land

Doon Social Farm is a 33-acre organic farm based in the beautiful scenic environment of Doon, County Limerick. According to the organisation, social farming provides people with the opportunity to improve health and wellbeing by taking part in day-to-day farm activities.

Doom Social Farm grows organic vegetables, salads, and fruits on a large scale in two polytunnels and a field overlooking the Galtee mountains. The organisation cares for a large flock of free-range hens providing organic eggs.

Doom Social Farm’s Organic Growing for Work and Life (Horticulture) course is now in its fourth year. On completion of the course, participants will have a QQI Level 4 qualification.  This programme gives participants an opportunity to learn how to grow delicious, nutritious vegetables and fruit on the Doon farm.

“Our course will guide you through all the knowledge and practical skills you need to be able to sow, plant, maintain and care for plants, at home in your own garden or as a commercial enterprise. The course takes place on the farm so you can immerse yourself in the natural environment, practice and apply skills as you learn. We offer course participants opportunities to consider and prepare for a career in this area,” a spokesperson for Doon Social Farm said.
